Hoop Jam at the Danforth

I was invited to a 'Hoop Jam' at the Danforth by Ish,my partner in crime. It's not always common to find a sense of community in Toronto, but it's totally unusual (in an awesome way) for me as a city dweller to see families, adults, and kids gathering to dance in the park. Ish introduced to me the community, and we ended up talking about online dating, cupcakes, kids, and food. It's a kind reminder that life is about the simple things.

Amidst the trees, people of all skill levels and ages were dancin' to some deep house music.

And then you look a bit more carefully, and you realize that hooping is as unique as the dancers. Check out partner hooping:
 Multi-tasking:
Multi-hoop action:
Oh yah, and check out these rainbow cupcakes by Amy of CupCakeBot:
I tried the gigantic hoop above they named 'butter' (pronounced 'butta'), and I can see why it's easy to get lost in the flow:
Thank you to the amazing group who welcomed me, and all the best to you as a positive force in the community:

Jen.

hoop jam at the Danforth - a short teaser

I was invited by my partner in crime, Ish, to check out a hoop jam at the Danforth. It's a massive congregation of people, young and old, who are getting some fresh air and exercise in the park. For me, hoola hooping conjured images of me struggling to keep up a bright plastic ring when I was five years old, and then got distracted by the ice cream truck. But this really changed my view about a sense of community in Toronto, and living well. A big thank you to my friend Ish, and the lovely people I met at the hoop jam for showing me a good time. More images to come.

black camel: portrait of a delicious sandwich

My mouth was watering like crazy was I was going through these sandwich photos. The Black Camel at Rosedale Station has awesome pulled pork sandwiches. And it's good like, every day. All the time. Seriously. It's like what comfort food should taste like - really soft bread, with savory barbeque sauce that actually has flavor as opposed to salt. Yum. It's not so heavy like bar food where you really regret it. I got beef brisket with caramelized onions. The zoom in could be interpreted as a little grimy, but trust that it was not.

Warning: vegan unfriendly images coming up.

Yum yum yum.

awkward ttc experience: regular day vs fri flooding

This is a classic, awkward TTC experience: The passenger sitting next to you farts, but there's nowhere to hide during rush hour:
This is the same experience with a twist, involving flooding at Union Station this past Friday.

The TTC can feel like the twilight zone. For more memes about the Union Station floording, check out blogto.
